THE LOWDOWN

SPORTING CHARLEROI

Under the management of Felice Mazzu, Sporting Charleroi have started that campaign in fairly underwhelming fashion as they languish down towards the very bottom end of the Jupiler Pro League table. ‘The Zebras’ begin this weekend sitting in the bottom four and the end of season relegation round playoff places.

The hosts’ most recent outing, a 1-0 loss to Mechelen a couple of weeks ago before the November international break, means that Charleroi have now suffered three successive defeats in the league. Mazzu is now coming under a bit of pressure with just 14 goals scored so far this season – only two teams have scored fewer than that.

WESTERLO

Westerlo were one of the most entertaining teams in Belgium last year as they finished in the top eight and, despite performances and results dramatically falling off, they have remained the key entertainers in Belgium’s top-flight. Under the management of Jonas De Roeck, their 14 matches have consisted of 44 goals so far this season.

However, in terms of results, they have managed just two victories in their opening 14 games as they languish down in the bottom four and the end of season relegation round playoff places. They have had a general upturn in their form, though, with a 3-3 draw against Sint-Truiden a couple of weeks ago meaning that they suffered just one loss in their last seven matches.

THE TEAM NEWS

SPORTING CHARLEROI

Sporting Charleroi have no fresh injury concerns for the visit of Westerlo so they will be able to name an unchanged side this weekend.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Koffi; Bager, Marcq, Andreou; Rogelj, Morioka, Heymans, Dragsnes; Ilaimaharitra, Bernier; Dabagh

UNAVAILABLE:

QUESTIONABLE: Mbenza (Injured), Tshiend (Injured), Van Cleemput (Injured), Benbouali (Injured)

WESTERLO

Westerlo have a couple of injury concerns with Mathias Fixelles and Ravil Tagir whilst Nacer Chadli, Josimar Alcocer and Ilias El Hari are all doubts.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Bolat; Bayram, Haidara, Perdichizzi; Reynolds, Sydorchuk, Piedfort, Madsen, Bos; Yow, Daci

UNAVAILABLE: Fixelles (Injured), Tagir (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Alcocer (Injured), Chadli (Injured), El Hari (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

These are two sides that share a similarity in the fact that they are both struggling down at the bottom end in the bottom four of the table but they have gone about that in very different ways. Charleroi are not overly attacking but they will sense an opportunity to get three points at home to a fellow struggler so will seek to get at Westerlo. Westerlo will play their way which is simply attacking all of their opposition so a relatively high-scoring ‘six pointer’ would appear a good bet for this one.

BETTING TIP: OVER 2.5 GOALS
