THE LOWDOWN

SINT-TRUIDEN

Sint-Truiden finished in the middle of the Belgian Jupiler Pro League table last season and would have been expecting to maintain that position with the awareness that the league has been reduced from 18 to 16 teams. They shared a thrilling 3-3 draw with struggling Westerlo in their most recent outing, prior to the November international break.

Under the management of Thorsten Fink, Sint-Truiden are now unbeaten in their last four matches across all competitions as they begin the weekend sitting in the top-half of the table. They have also been generally entertaining to watch so far this season with 40 goals coming in their 14 league games.

ANTWERP

After winning their first title in over 50 years in dramatic fashion on the final day of last season, it has been a tricky defence of the Belgian league for Mark van Bommel’s Royal Antwerp. The champions needed back-to-back victories prior to the November international break to ensure they begin this weekend sitting just about inside the top six of the table.

They come into this one on the back of a 6-0 thrashing of Standard Liege in their most recent outing, a couple of weeks ago. That means their usually restricted and fairly blunt style of play that saw them pragmatically grind their way to the title last year has been replaced slightly with 13 goals scored in their last three domestic matches.

THE TEAM NEWS

SINT-TRUIDEN

Sint-Truiden have a fully fit and available squad for this weekend’s visit of defending champions Antwerp and they will be able to go in unchanged.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Suzuki; Van Helden, Smets, Godeau; Ananou, Ito, Delorge-Knieper, Bocat; Steuckers, Koita; Zahiroleslam

ANTWERP

Antwerp still have a few injury concerns after the international break but nothing to cause Mark van Bommel to stray too far from the 6-0 defeat of Standard.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Butez; De Laet, Alderweireld, Coulibaly, Bataille; Vermeeren, Yusuf; Muja, Ekkelenkamp, Balikwisha; Janssen

UNAVAILABLE: Valencia (Injured), Keita (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Ondrejka (Injured), Vines (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

These two sides went into the break on the back of a much-needed slight improvement in their form but both sides will be concerned that any slight dip below their pre-season expectations will lead to some serious pressure. A dip from STVV sees them slip towards a relegation battle, whilst challenging to defend the title is the minimum expectation of Antwerp. Antwerp’s slightly more open style prior to the break means this could be quite an entertaining Friday evening encounter with the visitors remaining favourites.

BETTING TIP: ANTWERP TO WIN & OVER 2.5 GOALS
