THE LOWDOWN

EUPEN

The reduction in teams from 18 to 16 teams means that the likelihood of a mid-table side being dragged into a relegation battle is high. Eupen are one of those sides that will expect to be challenging against the drop this season after spending the majority of last year fighting against finishing in the bottom three.

Over the summer, they appointed former Wolfsburg boss Florian Kohfeldt and he has sparked a much-improved campaign for Eupen. They began with three wins and a draw in their opening four matches but come into this on the back of a deterioration in form, albeit three successive defeats have come against tough opponents Mechelen, Standard Liege and Genk.

ANDERLECHT

All of Belgium’s ‘Big Three’ underperformed last season but two members, Anderlecht and Standard Liege, have been significantly underperforming for quite some time. Under the management of former Brentford assistant coach Brian Riemer, the Brussels club showed signs of improvement but ended up finishing in the bottom-half last season.

The visitors added some big names in the summer transfer window, such as Danish trio Kasper Schmeichel, Thomas Delaney and Kasper Dolberg, perhaps linking to Riemer’s Brentford and Danish connections. They have started well, despite three successive draws since the international break, and are challenging towards the top-of-the-table after eight matches so far this season.

THE TEAM NEWS

EUPEN

Florian Kohfeldt has a headache for this weekend and will remain without injured duo Bartosz Bialek and Kevin Mohwald, as well as suspended Amadou Keita.

PREDICTED XI (X-X-X-X): PREDICTED XI HERE

UNAVAILABLE: Keita (Suspended)

QUESTIONABLE: Bialek (Injured), Mohwald (Injured)

ANDERLECHT

Two of those aforementioned ‘big names’, Dolberg and Delaney, are both out injured for Anderlecht, as well as key attacking midfielder Yari Verschaeren.

PREDICTED XI (X-X-X-X): PREDICTED XI HERE

UNAVAILABLE: Dolberg (Injured), Delaney (Injured), Verschaeren (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Ashimeru (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Both of these sides have generally overperformed pre-season expectations thus far but they have also slightly stuttered in recent matches, to varying degrees. Eupen are beginning to slide down the table a little, whereas Anderlecht haven’t won in three but only one of those aforementioned draws will be viewed as ‘negative’ or necessarily points dropped. They are unbeaten since the opening day of the season and are firm favourites for this one, despite being on the road.

TIP: ANDERLECHT TO WIN
