GENK
- Genk start this crucial match against Club Brugge two points outside of the top six after Mechelen’s 3-0 win against Sint-Truiden saw them leapfrog Genk in the table.
- They come into this fixture on the back of a win in their last game with the 1-0 victory against Kortrijk seeing them keep only their second clean sheet in 12 league matches.
- Joakim Maehle is forced to sit this match out through suspension but fellow defender Sebastien Dewaest returns to the team after a one match ban ruled him out against Kortrijk.
CLUB BRUGGE
- Club Brugge return to league action after crashing out of the Europa League following a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester United on Thursday night in the second leg of their round of 32 tie.
- Their hopes of a positive result in Manchester were vastly dented when Simon Deli’s needless handball midway through the first half saw him shown the red card and after Manchester United converted the resulting spot kick the home team dominated proceedings.
- They will have to do without club captain Ruud Vormer who is ruled out for the next four to six weeks and key striker Emmanuel Dennis is a big doubt to play after also missing the trip to Manchester through injury.
THE PREDICTION
This is a crucial match for Genk as they chase a place in the championship play-offs and with Mechelen winning on Friday night the pressure has been pushed even more onto them to get a positive result against the league leaders. Club Brugge had a torrid time in their 5-0 defeat in Manchester on Thursday night and with a couple of key injury problems they aren’t going to be at 100%. The fact Club Brugge have lost only one league match all season shows how tough they are to beat in their domestic competition though and even if they aren’t at their best they can come away with a draw.
