THE PREDICTION

We have finally reached the climax of the 2020 MLS season, which began all the way back in February, and despite the truncated nature of the covid-effected season and a shoehorned ‘MLS is Back Tournament’ taking place, there is plenty of familiarity about this MLS Cup Final. Reigning champions Seattle Sounders have reached this stage for the fourth time in the last five years and that experience has been clear to see in their playoff run so far. They face a fearsome looking Columbus Crew side though, whose record at MAPFRE stadium is superb having lost just once in their last 18 games there. In addition to that, this will be the last ever match staged there with the Crew moving to a new ground next season so there will be plenty of motivation to give it a memorable send-off. This is a really tough one to call between two strong and in-form sides, so expect it to be decided by the finest of margins. With both sides desperate to avoid making mistakes, this could be a contest that features under 2.5 goals, and don’t be surprised to see the scores even after 90 minutes.
