Flavio Cobolli cruised to a 6-2 6-1 6-3 win over lucky loser and former Grand Slam champion Maric Cilic in the first-round. The Italian did not lose his serve throughout the match and is now on a six match winning streak after picking up his second ATP Tour title in Hamburg last week.
He takes on a fellow compatriot in Matteo Arnaldi in the next round. Arnaldi staged a thrilling comeback as he fought from two sets to love down to beat Felix Auger-Aliassime. He won 5-7 2-6 6-3 6-4 6-2.
They have played just once before, two years ago in Umag on clay. Arnaldi won on that occasion, defeating Cobolli 6-3 7-6. Cobolli is ranked just ten places higher in the rankings at 26 but both are dangerous on clay.
This likely to be a very close encounter as both are in good form, with Arnaldi having made a quarter-final in Geneva just last week, so we expect this one to go the distance.
