Turkish giants Fenerbahce welcome six-time European champions Liverpool to Istanbul in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

Fenerbahce preview: Tough form

Despite offering his resignation after a 1-1 draw with Roma last month, Ismail Kartal remained in charge of Fenerbahce until last week with Dirk Kuyt now in the dugout amid suggestions that the Turks are set to appoint former Porto boss Sergio Conceicao.

Fenerbahce head into this one on the back of a 2-1 defeat at home to Goztepe at the weekend, meaning that they have won just one of their last five matches – and they have collected just two points from three games in the UEFA Champions League.

Liverpool preview: Frustrated at the weekend

Andoni Iraola and his Liverpool side were left frustrated at the weekend as they were narrowly beaten by Arsenal at Anfield in the Premier League due to a 16th minute winner scored by Germany international attacker Kai Havertz.

The Reds had found some form after losing at home to Manchester City after the international break and that included making it three from three in this competition with wins against LASK and then Villarreal last month.

Fenerbahce team news: Greenwood a doubt

Big money summer signing Mason Greenwood was unavailable at the weekend due to illness and so he is a doubt for this one with Nathan Ake sidelined alongside his defensive deputy Kojo Peprah Oppong.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Ederson; Semedo, Skriniar, Demir, Brown; Kante, Guendouzi; Aydin, Kahveci, Akturkoglu; Muriqi

Unavailable: Peprah Oppong (Injured), Ake (Injured), Oosterwolde (Injured), Diouf (Injured), Asensio (Injured)

Questionable: Greenwood (Illness)

Liverpool team news: Midfield debate

Due to poor form shown by Ryan Gravenberch, Trey Nyoni started in midfield against Arsenal but the expectation is that Dominik Szoboszlai comes back into the side. Victor Munoz will be pushing for a start ahead of Bradley Barcola or Cody Gakpo with one of the pair potentially rested by Iraola.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Araujo, Jacquet, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Barcola, Wirtz, Munoz; Isak

Unavailable: Leoni (Injured), Bradley (Injured), Frimpong (Injured), Ekitike (Injured)

Questionable:

Fenerbahce vs Liverpool prediction

Liverpool’s last couple of games in the UEFA Champions League have seen 16 goals scored with a 6-3 win in Austria against LASK and then a come from behind 4-3 defeat of Villarreal. Fenerbahce gave up a two-goal lead in a draw with Slavia Prague a couple of weeks ago and they are now in a tricky spot with the visitors firm favourites to make it four from four in Turkiye.

Fenerbahce vs Liverpool Tip: Liverpool to score two or more goals
