Eva Lys will be hoping to end a four-match losing streak when she begins her home tournament in Stuttgart. A knee injury sustained at the Australian Open kept her out for two months, and despite making her return in Miami, she lost to Yuliia Starodubtseva. Despite taking the first set against Katie Volynets in Charleston, Lys faded and went on to lose.
Paula Badosa is her opponent in the first-round. The Spaniard, who has also struggled with injuries in recent times, is already competing in her third clay court event of the campaign. She notched up two wins in Charleston before a loss in the third-round against Anna Kalinskaya. Badosa then competed in Linz, losing in round one to Lilli Tagger in straight sets.
Badosa comfortably won their previous meeting in Berlin last year. Both players have had their fair share of injury problems, but Badosa still has the higher ceiling, and also has the tools to control this match-up once again.
