They now face a Kent Spitfires side that were beaten by seven wickets by the Sussex Sharks in Canterbury on Sunday. Kent do have a high ceiling with the likes of Zak Crawley and Sam Billings but that was their second win in five games.
The two teams have won three and lost two apiece and a close contest is to be expected but, with home advantage, backing Essex would appear the way to go for this one.
