Espanyol preview: Woeful form

Manolo Gonzalez and his Espanyol side were tucked in the top six for much of this campaign after a bright start but the Catalans have been drifting for a while and there is now mounting pressure on their manager this weekend.

The home team come into this one on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Real Mallorca in the Balearic Islands last weekend, extending their winless run of form to 11 matches in La Liga since the turn of the year.

Getafe preview: Great form

In the meantime, Jose Bordalas' band of aggressors, Getafe, have managed to close the gap on eighth placed Espanyol to just one point ahead of this weekend's round of fixtures - with the top eight likely enough for European football.

The visitors do head into this one on the back of a slender and hard-fought 1-0 defeat to city rivals Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano last weekend with Nahuel Molina scoring the only goal of the game early on there.

Espanyol team news: Pickel suspended

Key defender Charles Pickel is now missing through suspension for Espanyol this weekend, while fellow defender Fernando Calero is sidelined due to injury.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): Dmitrovic; El Hilali, Marc Rubio, Leandro Cabrera, Carlos Romero; Dolan, Urko Gonzalez, Jofre Carreras, Ramon Terrats; Kike, Edu Exposito

Unavailable: Fernando Calero (Injured), Pickel (Suspended), Javi Puado (Injured)

Questionable:

Getafe team news: Abqar suspended

After a bizarre confrontation with Alexander Sorloth last week, Moroccan defender Abdel Abqar is now missing through suspension, while both Davinchi and Borja Mayoral are out injured.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): David Soria; Sebastian Boselli, Domingos Duarte, Nyom; Kiko Femenia, Luis Milla, Djene, Mauro Arambarri, Juan Iglesias; Luis Vazquez, Martin Satriano

Unavailable: Abqar (Suspended), Davinchi (Injured), Kamara (Ineligible), Borja Mayoral (Injured)

Questionable:

Espanyol vs Getafe prediction

Espanyol have struggled for any fluency or attacking cohesion in recent months. They are slowly sliding away from European contention. Getafe will be obdurate and often tedious but they are effective at what they want to do and that efficiency is something to be aided with on Saturday afternoon.

Espanyol vs Getafe tip: Double chance - Getafe to win or draw & under 3.5 goals
