Emiliana Arango was on a four match losing streak heading into the Guadalajara 125 last week but did record two victories in a row as she made the quarter-finals. The Colombian’s best form was found in late February, as she made a superb run from the qualifying rounds to the final of the Merida Open. That was preceded by a title on the ITF Tour in Cancun.
Magda Linette suffered a disappointing first-round loss to McCartney Kessler at the US Open. This would have been a surprise for the Pole after her encouraging display in Cincinnati, where she made the round-of-16. She is ranked outside of the top 30 but does have three quarter-final appearances under her belt this season, including a Masters 1000 in Miami. Her best result was a last four finish in Nottingham two months ago.
Linette has the greater pedigree on the tour and her game should be too much for Arango on hard court.
