Elvina Kalieva advanced from the first-round after a three set win over Dalma Galfi. She was broken at 5-5, with Galfi serving for the match, but Kalieva broke straight back to force a deciding set tiebreak. She would go on to win 6-3 6-7 (5) 7-6 (5) after three hours and 17 minutes.
She now faces Elise Mertens. The Belgian last competed at Indian Wells, making the third-round before a loss to Belinda Bencic. Her results have been largely unspectacular so far this year, reaching the round-of-16 at the Australian Open but suffering a number of third-round exits at other events. Mertens is yet to reach a quarter-final in 2026, but she is safely ranked inside the top 30. Mertens has never got past the fourth-round in Miami.
