Elsa Jacquemot ended a five-match losing run as she came from a set down to battle her way past Darja Vidmanova in the first-round. Despite breaking as Vidmanova saved for the first set, Jacquemot still went behind after losing the tiebreak. Nevertheless, she levelled the match after breaking in the 11th game of the second and won the last three games to seal a 6-7 (5) 7-5 7-5 victory after three hours and 15 minutes. Despite the win, Jacquemot encountered difficulties on serve as she committed 17 double faults and was broken six times.

It’s been a difficult start to the season for Marie Bouzkova, as she has lost eight of her 13 matches in 2026. The Czech also has just one victory from her last six, and that only occurred as a result of Camila Osorio’s retirement in the deciding set of their match in Merida. She was outclassed by Taylor Townsend in the first-round of Indian Wells, winning just three games.

Jacquemot leads the head-to-head 1-0 after beating Bouzkova in the first-round of last year’s US Open. The Czech is struggling at the moment and is vulnerable.
