Eintracht Frankfurt preview: Bundesliga form strong

Whilst Eintracht Frankfurt have struggled in competitions such as the Champions League and the DFB-Pokal, they have at least maintained a good recent record in the Bundesliga, keeping them firmly in top four contention. The hosts are unbeaten in their last five league games and have taken ten points from the last 12 available to them.

They drew a blank midweek though, as Dino Toppmoller’s men were taken apart by Serie A side Atalanta in the second half of their Champions League encounter, the Italians scoring three times without reply to leave Frankfurt in trouble when it comes to knockout stage qualification.

Wolfsburg preview: Bottom three looming

Depending on Saturday’s results, Wolfsburg could very well be taking to the pitch in Frankfurt having dropped into the Bundesliga’s bottom three following a dire run of results. A 1-3 loss at home to Bayer Leverkusen last time out was Wolfsburg’s third league defeat in a row and fourth in their last five.

Over the course of their last three matches in the league, Wolfsburg have given up eight goals, which is clearly unsustainable. Frankfurt will likely punish them if they offer the hosts too much space inside their own half, so Wolfsburg will need to be at their best on and off the ball.

Eintracht Frankfurt team news: Burkardt big miss

Eintracht Frankfurt will be without their top-scoring in what is a huge blow for the home side. Jonathan Burkardt has picked up a calf injury and the in-form striker misses out here. With Can Uzun also sidelined with a hamstring problem, that’s two key players missing for Frankfurt.

Predicted XI: (3-4-3): Zetterer; Collins, Koch, Theate, Brown; Skhiri, Chaibi; Doan, Gotze, Knauff; Batshuayi

Unavailable: Burkardt (Injured), Larsson (thigh), Uzun (Injured)

Questionable:

Wolfsburg team news: Large injury list

Wolfsburg continue to suffer with a lengthy list of injured players. They are set to be without at least seven players for this trip to Frankfurt and it would be no surprise if Daghim’s back issue makes it eight.

Predicted XI: (4-2-3-1): Grabara; Kumbedi, Vavro, Koulierakis, Zehnter; Arnold, Gerhardt; Skov Olsen, Majer, Amoura; Pejcinovic

Unavailable: Dardai (Injured), Fischer (Injured), Jenz (Injured), Maehle (Injured), Paredes (Injured), Rogerio (Injured), Wind (Injured)

Questionable: Daghim (Injured)

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Wolfsburg prediction

Despite their terrible recent form, this still represents a decent opportunity for Wolfsburg to unexpectedly get something away at Eintracht Frankfurt when considering the injury absentees of the hosts. To lose both Burkardt and Uzun is critical from the hosts’ perspective and it would be no surprise if they struggled in front of goal as a consequence.

Expect Wolfsburg to keep bodies behind the ball and try to frustrate Frankfurt with a view to hitting them on the counter-attack. Whilst games involving the home side this season have been largely high scoring affairs, the smart play here may well be to back under 3.5 goals scored across 90 minutes.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Wolfsburg tip: Under 2.5 goals
