Eintracht Frankfurt’s defensive woes continue to haunt them as they welcome slumping St. Pauli to Deutsche Bank Park

Kick-off date/time:

How to watch on TV: UK – Not televised / US – ESPN

How to watch online: UK – Not streamed / US – ESPN+

Eintracht Frankfurt preview: Change of keeper no help

Dino Toppmoller brought goalkeeper Alexander Zetterer back into the starting line-up over the struggling Kaua Santos against Liverpool in a bid to try and arrest his side’s awful defensive record which has seen them ship the most goals of any Bundesliga team this season. However, it was no help as the Reds thrashing Frankfurt 1-5 in their Champions League clash.

Whilst St. Pauli represent the ideal opposition for a team whose backline and goalkeepers cannot seem to keep the ball out of their own net right now, there is now massive pressure on the shoulders of Toppmoller and his players. A bad result here could see the fans turn.

St. Pauli preview: Losing streak extended

St. Pauli’s currently losing run is showing no signs of abating. If anything, things are getting worse following last weekend’s awful 0-3 defeat at the hands of Hoffenheim. We’ve touched on Frankfurt’s struggles at the back, but St. Pauli have now given up eight goals in their last four matches, all of which have ended with them losing.

Being away from home may bring less pressure but confidence within the dressing room is clearly extremely low and only improved results can change that. They need to take advantage of their opponents’ recent woes and arrest the slide in this match.

Eintracht Frankfurt team news: A few issues

Following their defeat to Liverpool the other day, Frankfurt have their own key injury issues as both Elias Baum and Oscar Hojlund are sidelined, whilst forward Jessic Ngankam is a doubt, too.

Predicted XI: Santos; Kristensen, Koch, Amenda, Theate; Larsson, Chaibi; Doan, Uzun, Brown; Burkardt

Unavailable: Baum (Injured), Hojlund (Injured)

Questionable: Ngankam (Injured)

St. Pauli team news: Coming soon

Former Peterborough United striker Ricky-Jade Jones is sidelined alongside defender David Nemeth. They also have a couple of doubts, too, such as Hauke Wahl and James Sands.

Predicted XI: Vasilj; Dzwigala, Smith, Ritzka; Pyrka, Metcalfe, Fujita, Oppie; Sinani; Pereira Lage, Kaars

Unavailable: Nemeth (Injured), Jones (Injured)

Questionable: Wahl (Injured), Sands (Injured)

Eintracht Frankfurt vs St. Pauli prediction

This is a contest that really could go either way between two clubs likely to be low on morale, who look woefully exposed whenever they are pushed back by their opponents. Set pieces or from open play, goals have been easy to come by against both Eintracht Frankfurt and St. Pauli of late, which they can each take advantage of here.

It would be a real surprise if we didn’t see a match with plenty of goals in it. The numbers stack up with St. Pauli averaging two goals conceded per game across their last four in the league, whilst Frankfurt have the worse defensive record in the Bundesliga. Therefore, back over 3.5 goals to be scored.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs St. Pauli tip: Over 3.5 goals
