Eintracht Frankfurt preview: A spirited effort

Eintracht Frankfurt deserve credit for the way they rallied at the Allianz Arena against table toppers Bayern Munich in a match that looked at one stage like Albert Riera’s men would become the latest to fall victims of a thrashing at the hands of the Rekordmeister. Eintracht were 2-0 down after 20 minutes and Harry Kane went on to add his second and Bayern’s third in the 68th minute.

But the last 20 minutes of the contest were all about Eintracht, with Jonathan Burkardt scoring a penalty before Kalimuendo added a second goal with four minutes to play, making it a nervy finish for Bayern. That is a huge positive that Eintracht can take from Munich despite losing.

Freiburg preview: Brilliant home record maintained

Freiburg under Julian Schuster have been utterly formidable at home this season and their awesome record in the Black Forest continued last time out in the Bundesliga, as they edged past Borussia Monchengladbach by two goals to one. Mathias Ginter and Igor Matanovic did the damage as Schuster’s side survived a late Gladbach fightback to pick up three points.

That victory sees Freiburg currently in seventh-place but if they are to start making a serious tilt at those Champions League places then they need to start picking up more points on the road, having lost their last two away league fixtures.

Eintracht Frankfurt team news: Defensive misses

Eintracht Frankurt’s backline is depleted heading into this game as they’ll be missing Rasmus Kristensen and Arthur Theate through ankle and knee injuries respectively.

Predicted XI: (3-4-3): Santos; Collins, Koch, Amenda; Doan, Larsson, Skhiri, Brown; Amaimouni-Echghouyab, Burkardt, Bahoya

Unavailable: Batshuayi (Injured), Ebnoutalib (Injured), Knauff (Injured), Kristensen (Injured), Theate (Injured)

Questionable: Uzun (Injured)

Freiburg team news: No Beste for this one

Beste’s suspension rules him out of the trip to Frankfurt, which should see Scherhant, Suzuki and Grifo start behind Matanovic, whilst Manzambi is also banned for this game.

Predicted XI: (4-2-3-1): Atubolu; Treu, Ginter, Ogbus, Gunter; Eggestein, Osterhage; Scherhant, Suzuki, Grifo; Matanovic

Unavailable: Beste (Suspended), Kübler (Injured), Lienhart (Injured), Manzambi (Suspended), Rosenfelder (Injured)

Questionable:

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Freiburg prediction

An intriguing and likely exciting encounter awaits us between these two teams, both of whom are desperately for three points and wherever Eintracht Frankfurt go, goals usually follow. Four of their last five Bundesliga games have seen over 2.5 goals scored and their backline remains one of the weakest in the league in terms of goals conceded.

Freiburg’s away record is poor and they must see this as a chance to change that, knowing how difficult Eintracht have found it all season long to keep the ball out of their net. But when you consider Schuster’s side having these road struggles, it opens the door for Riera’s Frankfurt to capitalise. Therefore, expect an open game with plenty of chances on either side and over 2.5 goals scored regardless of who comes out on top.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Freiburg tip: Over 2.5 goals
