Despite only entering the draw as a lucky loser, Dominika Salkova made it through to the round-of-16 at the Open de Rouen after a straight sets win over Anna Blinkova. A remarkable first set saw Blinkova establish a 4-0 lead, only for Salkova to reel off four games in a row to draw level. Blinkova served for the set, but Salkova went on another run as she won three consecutive games to take the lead. Blinkova broke in the first service game of the second set, but that would be the last game she would win in the match as Salkova finished strongly to claim a 7-5 6-1 win.
She now faces Tatjana Maria. The German has struggled for much of the campaign up to this point, but she produced a strong first-round display to defeat Elsa Jacquemot after one hour and 45 minutes. Maria did not have it all her own way, as she was 4-2 down in the first set and pegged back in the second, but she won 6-4 6-3.
Both players were still vulnerable at times in their opening round matches, and this encounter could see momentum swings.
