Diane Parry vs Irina-Camelia Begu prediction
Diane Parry finally got her clay court season going with two wins in qualifying to make the main draw in Madrid. Her campaign in Rouen was a struggle as she fell to a straight sets loss to Jacqueline Cristian in the first-round. She defeated the higher-ranked Elisabetta Cocciaretto 6-2 6-2 in the final qualifying stage, creating plenty of opportunities with 14 break point chances overall.
Irina-Camelia Begu participated at the Charleston Open over two weeks ago on clay but could not make it out of the first-round, losing in straight sets to Polina Kudermetova. The Romanian has struggled for form so far this season and hasn’t made it past the second-round in any of the six tournaments she has entered.
Begu did win their only match against each other, which was on clay at the Palermo Open three years ago. The Romanian won 6-1 6-3. She is comfortable on this surface, having made three quarter-finals at this event and reached three 125k finals on clay last season. We’re backing Begu to advance here.
