Denis Shapovalov vs Mariano Navone prediction
Denis Shapovalov’s campaign at the Madrid Open was short-lived, as he was thrashed 6-2 6-1 by Nicolai Budkov Kjaer in the first-round. He fared better at his previous event in Munich, winning two matches against Tallon Griekspoor and Fabian Marozsan before a quarter-final defeat to Alex Molcan. Aside from a semi-final finish in Dallas, it’s been a pretty uninspiring season from the Canadian up to this point.
He goes up against Mariano Navone in the first-round. He was the top seed at a Challenger event in Cagliari last week but lost to Matteo Berrettini in his opening match. He was unable to make inroads in Barcelona or Madrid, but he does have a title on the surface in 2026, having won the Bucharest Open at the start of last month.
Navone leads the head-to-head 1-0 after a surprise win over Shapovalov at Wimbledon last year. He’s a lot more comfortable on clay, and Shapovalov is in trouble once more.
