Dayana Yastremska ended a three match losing run in the first-round of Indian Wells as she beat Shuai Zhang comfortably. However, she would go no further after a three set loss to Alexandra Eala in the next stage. It’s been a pretty disappointing first leg of the season from the Ukrainian, with eight losses from 13, while she is also yet to win back-to-back matches.
She faces Ashlyn Krueger in the first-round of the Miami Open. The American had also made a slow start to this campaign but did come alive at the ATX Open as she won three matches on the spin to make the semi-finals. Her run would end at the hands of Taylor Townsend, but Krueger impressed at Indian Wells with two wins over Magda Linette and Liudmila Samsonova to make the third-round, where she lost to Elina Svitolina.
Krueger has five wins from her last seven and will be confident of picking up another win over Yastremska.
