Darja Vidmanova recorded her first WTA main draw win after upsetting seventh seed Alycia Parks in the first-round. The Czech breezed through the first set and recovered from a 3-1 deficit in the second to win 6-2 6-4 after just an hour and 21 minutes. She won an impressive 78% of her points on first serve and has three straight wins this week, including qualifying.
She will face Nikola Bartunkova in the next round. She also won her first-round match in straight sets, beating Nicole Fossa Huego. Bartunkova claimed the only break of the first set in the fifth game and raced to a 4-0 lead in the second as she came through to win 6-4 6-2. She could only muster a first serve percentage of 37% during the encounter but was only broken once.
Vidmanova should be confident after defeating Parks comfortably in the last round, in what turned out to be a landmark win. We give her the edge against Bartunkova.
