Two-time champion Naomi Osaka remains a very dangerous name in terms of title contenders in the women’s draw. 

The Japanese star is on a strong run of form on her favoured hard court, backing up a surge to the Canadian Open final with some eye-catching performances at Flushing Meadows. 

The 23rd seed will now face 15th seed Daria Kasatkina, who needed to fight hard to edge Kamilla Rakhimova last time out. 

This will be their third encounter with Osaka winning their previous two matches in straight sets, including one on clay in Rome last year. 

The former world number one is a much tougher proposition on a hardcourt and her power will be too much for the Aussie, whose game doesn’t match up well against the Japanese star on any surface.
