Daria Kasatkina qualified for this event following two straight set wins. She struggled in Rome, losing in the first-round following a comprehensive defeat to Caty McNally. Kasatkina won an ITF event in La Bisbal D’Emporda at the start of this month, but she is yet to win a WTA main draw match on clay this season. Her campaign has also been disrupted by injury so far.
She takes on Liudmila Samsonova. The Russian reached the third-round of back-to-back events in Madrid and Rome, but she was unable to go beyond that stage. Samsonova has advanced to two quarter-finals so far this season in Brisbane and Abu Dhabi, but she does have a negative win-loss record in 2026, having lost 11 of her 18 matches.
