The Slovakian qualifier chalked up a dominant 6-3 6-2 success against the third seed and set up a showdown with home hope Daniel Altmaier.

This will a first ever meeting between the two and although Molcan managed to bag a big surprise against Bublik, the world number 166 still sits 110 places below Altmaier on the ATP ladder, with the German’s penchant for clay and desire to keep impressing on home turf likely to help him through.
