Namo Fazil: "Grandson of Saladin" looks to punch his UFC ticket

An impressive second round submission win over Jake Babian on MVP’s inaugural MMA event has secured Namo Fazil (10-1) headlining duties on Week 2 of the Contender Series. A powerful, dynamic striker with a solid submission game in his back pocket, the welterweight is slick on the mike and already has a simmering beef with current top UFC lightweight, Arman Tsarukyan, working for him in his efforts to grab the limelight. Riding a seven fight win streak into his UFC audition, “Grandson of Saladin” has only ever been to the scorecards on three occasions throughout his burgeoning career and has never been finished.

Kaik Brito: Can Brito right the wrongs of his first Contender Series appearance?

Oktagon alum, Kaik Brito (19-6), looks to make good on his second appearance on the Contender Series, having come up short to Oban Elliot in his first attempt back in 2023. The 29 year old Brazilian is currently riding a two fight win streak, with both wins coming by way of brutal KO. Brito has a 100% finish rate with sixteen KOs and has only ever been stopped twice, including a loss early in his career to current UFC lightweight, Mateusz Rebicki. However, it’s worth noting that he’s only two fights removed from one of them, succumbing to a nasty head kick loss against Ion Surdu prior to his most recent streak.

Namo Fazil vs Kaik Brito prediction

Brito is a moderate underdog here, but he’s far from dead in the water. The Brazilian has been under the bright lights of the Apex before and will have a point to prove after coming up short last time out. He’s considerably more experienced than Fazil and has the power to put him away if “Grandson of Saladin” makes a mistake on the feet.

However, we’re still going with Fazil to take this one. He’s an enormous, powerful welterweight who is likely to have a physicality advantage here. The Kurdistan fighter doesn’t just rely on the knockout either; the fact that his stoppages are split evenly between KOs and submissions highlight his versatility as a dangerous finisher. He’s also got a ton of momentum and has never been stopped, while Brito is only two fights removed from a devastating KO defeat.

Brito will be dangerous early and carries his power late, but I liked what I saw from Fazil against Jake Babian. He dropped the first round and came out for the second like a bat out of hell, hunting a finish with urgency. He’s hungry for this opportunity and I like his chances to find the finish, whether that be with a huge bomb in the early goings or latching up a submission after hurting Brito in an exchange.

Prediction: Namo Fazil to win by finish
