Douglas Henrique Rodrigues: "Blade" looks to slice through another opponent

Unbeaten outside of a loss in his second professional fight, Douglas Henrique Rodrigues (6-1) looks to parlay his run of hot form on the South American regional circuit into a UFC contract. A pro since 2018, “Blade” has been a consistent KO threat throughout his young career, bludgeoning his opponents with spiteful punches and kicks en route to four ferocious knockout wins. The 27 year old Brazilian is fresh off earning the middleweight strap in Future Fighting FC, flatlining Gabriel Ramos with a one-hitter quitter in March. He typically uses his powerful boxing to set up kicks, chopping to the legs or going up high in search of the KO.

Trent Miller: "The Terminator" aims for redemption at the second time of asking

Tuesday night marks the sophomore appearance on the Contender Series for Trent Miller (9-3), having come up short against Ryan Gandra last year. Having fought the majority of his career in various regional promotions, “The Terminator” has just a single win by decision, with seven victories by KO to his name. However, the 30 year old Xtreme Couture representative has also proven susceptible to going out on his shield in pursuit of the stoppage; while he earned a bounce back win last time out, he was KO’d by Gandra and has also been submitted twice on regional circuit.

Douglas Henrique Rodrigues vs Trent Miller prediction

An exciting finisher with an extremely entertaining fighting style, Rodrigues looks to be good value as a moderate favorite here. Miller may be more experienced in terms of cage time, but he has been in this position and lost before. Moreover, he’s also been finished by opponents who weren’t on Ryan Gandra’s level.

“Blade” doesn’t look to be much of a threat to find a submission here, but that doesn’t figure to prevent him from earning the win. He seems to be the bigger, more powerful man in this match up and charges forward extremely aggressively in search of the KO, an approach that paid dividends for Gandra against Miller in short order.

Given Rodrigues’ propensity to throw head kicks after stinging his opponents with punches, I think they could be money for the Brazilian here. I see “Blade” coming out of the doors like a bat out of hell in his usual fashion, putting Miller on the back foot in the early goings and opening up the range for him to blast him with a shin to the dome as he retreats.

Miller has some KOs of his own, but they haven’t come over anybody that makes me think he’s likely to score the upset here. The pick is Rodrigues by first round KO.

Prediction: Douglas Henrique Rodrigues to win by KO
