Neil Magny: The veteran looks to upset the applecart once again
Making his thirty-eight walk to the Octagon come Saturday night, Neil Magny (31-14) is still going strong at the ripe age of 38. Case in point, a submission loss to the highly touted Yaroslav Amosov snapped a two fight finish streak for the welterweight statesman, with both wins coming just over a year ago. The book has been out on Magny for what seems like years; he gets flatlined or submitted with ease by anybody legitimate but is still capable of fraud checking anybody who isn’t a genuine Top 10 worthy talent. He leverages his immense frame to be competitive on the feet, but he’s at his best when he’s able to out-cardio his opponents, work them in the clinch or on the mat, and grind out a finish when they have nothing left to give.
Ramiz Brahimaj: Can Brahimaj rebound from a disappointing loss last time out?
5-4 since making the jump to the UFC in back in 2020, a decision loss to Punahele Soriano last time out snapped what had been a three fight finish streak for Ramiz Brahimaj (13-6). A well-rounded finisher dangerous in all areas of the game, Brahimaj has won by stoppage in all of his five UFC wins to date, underlining the danger the he poses. However, the LFA veteran has also had some bad losses along the way; defeats to the likes of Themba Gorimbo, Max Griffin, and Court McGhee have aged particularly poorly, even though the American has undoubtedly stepped up his game since.

As with all Magny fights, it’s not outside of the realms of possibility that he just gets brutally finished out of nowhere without being even slightly competitive. “The Haitian Sensation” still does not check leg kicks after nearly thirty years in the game, and I can easily see Brahimaj chewing his calf up in the early goings.
With that being said, Brahimaj doesn’t fit the mold of a brutal one-hitter quitter likes Michael Morales or Carlos Prates who looks set to nuke Magny out cold. He’s a solid submission threat outside of his strking, but he isn’t on the grappling level of a Gilbert Burns or a Yaroslav Amosov.
The manner of Brahimaj’s defeat to Punahele Soriano is arguably the deciding factor here. He had his moments, but he also seemingly ran out of ideas when the finish didn’t materialize, something that bodes ill against a veteran of Magny’s craft and toughness.
As is normally the case, Magny has a good size advantage here, a state of affairs that has seen him wear on many an opponent until their gas tank runs empty and he’s able to find the late finish. I think his 1-2 and snappy front kick are going to pay dividends here, allowing him to march forward, secure takedowns, and wear on Brahimaj until he eventually crumbles.
