Jalin Turner: "The Tarantula" returns in search of a second successive win post retirement
One of the largest lightweights on the UFC roster, Jalin Turner (15-9) retains a reputation as one of the most lethal finishers at 155 pounds, leveraging his enormous frame to land fight ending shots or wrench out submissions on the mat. “The Tarantula” briefly flirted with retirement following a rough 1-4 stretch between 2023 and 2025 but returned to winning ways in his most recent appearance, pulverizing Edson Barboza for a first round TKO at UFC 323. However, while he’s incredibly dangerous in the early goings, Turner is just as synonymous with crumbling late if he’s unable to get his opponents out of there quickly.
Kaue Fernandes: Can the "new Edson Barboza" earn his fourth victory in a row?
Perfect in the promotion outside of a split decision defeat to Marc Diakiese in his debut, Kaue Fernandes (11-2) looks to make it four UFC wins in a row against the biggest name of his career come Saturday night. A ferocious striker with devastating kicking ability, the 31 year old Nova Unaio representative has seemingly improved from fight to fight, scoring two finishes in three victories since. He was last seen attempting to remove Harry Hardwick’s limbs from his lower torso, pulverizing the MFA man with leg kicks en route to a brutal first round TKO victory.
Jalin Turner vs Kaue Fernandes prediction
This is an absolute banger of a fight (and I know bangers!)
Fernandes is a seriously good talent. A precociously talented kicker, he’s come a long way since dropping a split decision to Marc Diakiese in his debut. If Turner isn’t able to finish this fight in the first round, I like Fernandes to chew up his legs and eventually find a finish in the later stages of the fight. He’s outsized in this match up
Whether he can survive that long is another question entirely. The gargantuan Turner brings an edge in physicality that Fernandes has never encountered before and has been in there with considerably better levels of competition. He’s extremely aggressive and is going to come out fast in search of his trademark early finish, closing off the avenues for leg kicks by advancing relentlessly and posing a stylistic problem that Fernandes has yet to face.
If this gets out of the opening round, Turner will crumble as he has time and time before. However, I can’t escape the sensation that this is one of those fights where he’s going to catch his opponent badly in the early goings. I see a big shot landing in the initial exchanges, potentially an elbow in close or an uppercut at range, dazing Fernandes badly and allowing “The Tarantula” to pour on the damage and earn the finish.
Prediction: Jalin Turner to win by first round finish
