Jeremiah Wells: The American veteran pursues a new win streak in the division
Three brutal finishes in his first four UFC fights had many labeling Jeremiah Wells (13-4-1) as one to watch in the welterweight division. Capable of winning a grinding decision or just bombing his opponents out cold with an overhand in his heyday, Wells simply hasn’t been the same since a nasty technical submission defeat to Carlston Harris brought an end to his win streak back in 2023. The American has fought just twice since that defeat, going 1-1 against Themba Gorimbo and Max Griffin respectively. At 39, the American is clearly in the twilight of his career, with a a loss on Saturday potentially spelling the end of his time on the roster.
Myktybek Orolbai: The impressive prospect looks for another brutal finish
Perfect outside of a split decision defeat to Mateusz Rebicki in a FOTY contender, Myktybek Orolbai (16-2-1) is 5-1 in the UFC since making the jump from LFA back in 2023. An accomplished wrestler with excellent submissions and solid power in his hands, Orolbai relies on an iron chin to close distance and work his grappling game. It’s carried him to wins over some sneakily solid names in the welterweight division; Orolbai has scored victories over the likes of Uros Medic, Tofiq Musayev, and Jack Hermansson in his UFC tenure, earning finishes in three of his five victories with the promotion.

This is a pretty easy one to call. Wells is a crafty veteran capable of grinding out a hard fought decision, but at age 39, Orolbai is going to a be step too far here.
Wells likes to hang out in the front headlock position when he’s in grappling exchanges, an area where Orolbai has historically done well in scoring takedowns when he’s unable to finish the first shot outright. Once he finds some initial success in the grappling, I can see him consistently outmuscling and beating Wells up in the clinch or smashing him with GNP on the mat if he’s able to ground him.
Wells has some underrated pop in his hands, but Orolbai has an iron chin, to the point that I can’t imagine the American fluking him with a monstrous overhand out in the open, even if he is able to land clean. The Kyrgyzstan fighter has some decent power in his own right but a flatline KO over the cracked Jack Hermansson isn’t enough to convince me that he’s a likely candidate to flatline Wells.
Orolbai leans on his grappling edge as Wells inevitably slows to earn a convincing decision, potentially even causing enough damage to find a late submission.
