Mansur Abdul-Malik: The highly touted prospect searching for a swift rebound
Undefeated as a pro until his last outing, a rough TKO loss to Yousri Belgaroui brought Mansur Abdul Malik (9-1-1) crashing back down to earth following a 3-0-1 start to life in the promotion. The Contender Series graduate has long been touted as a prospect to watch, courtesy of his impressive physicality and athleticism in tandem with an excellent wrestling game and solid striking. However, after scoring finishes in every bout outside of a NC against Cody Brundage, the 28 year old American was stymied and absorbed a lot of damage when faced with a striker of Belgaroui’s caliber, raising questions as to how he will bounce back from his first legitimate career setback.
Dustin Stoltzfus: A hardened veteran in dire need of a win
3-7 under the UFC banner, Dustin Stoltzfus (16-8) looks to avoid a third successive defeat when he makes the walk on Saturday night. First gaining attention after defeating Joe Pyfer via nauseating arm injury on the Contender Series, Stoltzfus began his UFC tenure with three consecutive losses to pump the brakes on his potential. He’s alternated wins and losses since then prior to his latest two fight skid, with a loss on Saturday potentially signaling the end of his time in the promotion. The American is a wild striker with a penchant for spinning techniques, although his takedown defense has consistently let him down throughout his time in the promotion.

This could get rough for Stoltzfus.
Yousri Belgaroui may have slowed Abdul-Malik’s hype train last time out, but the “The Baby Face Assassin” looks like a dark horse contender at 185 pounds. The American is still a solid middleweight prospect who had brutalized every UFC opponent prior to his loss against Belgaroui, fighters who are are arguably on a similar level to Stoltzfus.
Stoltfuz losing to Kelvin Gastelum in his last fight was a really bad look and his most recent wins don’t give me a great degree of confidence that he’s about to score the upset here. Marc-Andre Barriault is old and has been KO’d before, while Punahele Soriano has always been a suspect grappler. Abdul-Malik has been hurt and dropped before, but not to the point where I’m going to pick Stoltzfus to score a monstrous KO out of nowhere.
Abdul-Malik is considerably bigger, more powerful, and has much more reliable wrestling ability; he looks to have an edge anywhere this fight takes place. While it’s not inconceivable that Stoltzfus gives him trouble early, I see Abdul-Malik leaning on his grappling and physicality edge to eventually find a finish on the ground.
