Jeisla Santos Chaves: Unproven striker seeking a breakout performance
Jeisla Santos Chaves (5-0) enters this bout undefeated, but the 28-year-old Brazilian’s record comes with a major caveat — none of her five opponents have a single MMA win between them. Turning pro in 2023, she has yet to be tested at anything close to UFC level.
Chaves comes from a Muay Thai background and has shown some decent technical striking. However, she tends to leave her head on the centre line and offers little in terms of defensive movement. Her grappling credentials are unclear, with no real footage or evidence of her ground game so far.
Sofia Montenegro: More tested Argentinian looking to make her mark
Sofia Montenegro (6-1) has also faced relatively low-level competition, but at least boasts wins over opponents with MMA victories. The 26-year-old trains at the UFC Performance Institute in Mexico and turned pro in 2021.
Montenegro is aggressive on the feet and not afraid to throw combinations, but this willingness to engage makes her hittable — something that cost her in her only career loss via knockout. She mixes in leg kicks, has decent takedowns, and a solid top game when on the mat.
Jeisla Santos Chaves vs Sofia Montenegro prediction
There’s not much tape to study here, but Montenegro’s record stands up better under scrutiny. Chaves’ opponents have been worryingly poor, and with no proven ground game to fall back on, her striking may not be enough to carry her through.
Given Montenegro’s slightly broader skill set and better resume, it feels as though she is more likely to get her hand raised.
Prediction: Sofia Montenegro to win
