Dalma Galfi picked up a win in the first-round of the Madrid Open, beating Ajla Tomljanovic in straight sets. She was behind for much of the first set, with Tomljanovic serving for it, but she broke back and edged ahead in the tiebreak. She recovered from another break down in the second, winning 7-6 (6) 6-4 after one hour and 58 minutes.
Anna Kalinskaya is her next opponent. She began her clay court campaign with a credible quarter-final finish at the Charleston Open. Kalinskaya beat Viktoriya Tomova and Paula Badosa, before a straight sets loss to Iva Jovic. That was the second time she had reached the last eight of a tournament in 2026, after her display at the Dubai Tennis Championships.
Galfi was still vulnerable on serve in her first-round match, and she will have to produce an even better display if she is to trouble Kalinskaya, who is a very talented player on the tour.
