Dalibor Svrcina produced a solid performance in round one as he defeated the returning Matteo Berrettini in straight sets. Svrcina conceded just one break point as he won 6-3 6-3 after an hour and 25 minutes. He won 78% of his first serve points and was in control right from the start, as he broke Berrettini in his first service game to take an early lead.
Zhang Zhizhen will be his opponent in the next round. The Chinese player made a winning return from injury after six months out, as he came from a set down to beat Yunchaokete Bu in a rematch of last year’s semi-final at this event. Zhizhen was not broken during the whole match and won 82% of his points on first serve, defeating his compatriot 6-7 6-4 7-6.
I expect this one to go to three sets. Svrcina’s momentum and aggression is likely to provide him with opportunities, but Zhang is a resilient competitor and has experience in tight situations.
