Dalibor Svrcina continued his progress in Hangzhou as he made the quarter-finals with a straight sets victory over Zhizhen Zhang. He went an early break down in the first but recovered well to take the lead, and he dominated the second to win 6-4 6-3 after one hour and 32 minutes. The qualifier had won just one match on the ATP Tour before the start of the event.
He will face Alexander Bublik in the quarter-finals. Bublik recovered from going a set down to beat Aleksandar Vukic in the previous round. Vukic saved a set point in the first set before going on take it on a tiebreak. However, Bublik was in control after that and did not face a break point in the entire match as he won 6-7 6-4 6-4.
Bublik’s strong serve should provide him with plenty of free points and his powerful game should prove too much for Svrcina.
