Cypriot football is booming at club level, but their international side has been declining for a while, as they continue their FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign against Romania.

Kick-off date/time:

How to watch on TV: UK – Not televised / US – FOX Sports

How to watch online: UK – Amazon Prime / US – Disney+

Key stats

  • Cyprus have won only one of their last 11 World Cup qualifying matches (D1 L9).
  • Romania have lost only one of the previous 16 international matches between these teams (W12 D3).
  • Romania have won six of their last nine World Cup qualifying matches outside of Romania (D1 L2).
  • Romania have kept four clean sheets in their last five World Cup qualifying matches outside of Romania.

Cyprus vs Romania prediction

Cyprus come into this one on the back of a slender 1-0 defeat to Austria at the Raiffeisen Arena in Vienna the other day, courtesy of a Marcel Sabitzer penalty scored mid-way through the second-half. The Cypriots have managed one victory with three defeats in their four qualifiers thus far.

They now face a Romania side that have been frustrated with two victories and two defeats, one of them being a surprise loss to Bosnia-Herzegovina, leaving them well adrift of the Bosnians and Austrians in Group H. The Romanians most recently suffered a 3-0 hammering at the hands of Canada in Bucharest.

Romania are underperforming after an impressive UEFA EURO 2024 campaign, but they have to remain favourites for this one at the GSP Stadium in Nicosia.

Cyprus vs Romania tip: Romania to win
