Crystal Palace preview: FA Cup winners

Crystal Palace won their first ever major trophy at the weekend as they defeated Manchester City by a goal to nil at Wembley Stadium in the final of the 2024/25 FA Cup thanks to a first-half winning goal scored by Eberechi Eze and Omar Marmoush’s penalty saved by Dean Henderson.

The Eagles have been brilliant to watch since mid-to-late-October and they have been one of the better sides in the league since a slow-ish start to the season. They could squeeze themselves into the top-half in the final two games of the campaign.

Wolves preview: Improved Wolves

Since the appointment of former Porto boss Vitor Pereira in mid-December, to replace former AFC Bournemouth boss Gary O’Neil, Wolverhampton Wanderers have been much-improved as they sit comfortably clear of the bottom three after an excellent calendar year.

However, Wolves do come into this one on the back of back-to-back defeats. They were beaten 1-0 by Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium a couple of weeks ago before a 2-0 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion at Molineux in their most recent outing last weekend.

Crystal Palace team news: Potential rotation

Oliver Glasner has confirmed that captain Marc Guehi and key midfielder Adam Wharton will miss this week with the latter also unavailable for the final day of the season due to concussion. They also have key injuries, too, such as Chadi Riad and Cheick Doucoure.

Predicted XI (3-4-1-2): Henderson; Richards, Lacroix, Lerma; Munoz, Hughes, Kamada, Chilwell; Eze; Mateta, Nketiah

Unavailable: Riad (Injured), Guehi (Injured), Doucoure (Injured), Wharton (Concussion)

Questionable:

Wolves team news: Doyle a doubt

Former Manchester City midfielder Tommy Doyle is a major doubt for this week as he is dealing with a ‘small problem’. He is expected to be sidelined for Wolves alongside the likes of Sam Johnstone, Enso Gonzalez and Sasa Kalajdzic but Hwang Hee-chan is fully fit.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Sa; Doherty, Agbadou, Toti; Semedo, J. Gomes, Andre, Ait-Nouri; Munetsi, Cunha; Strand Larsen

Unavailable: Johnstone (Injured), Mosquera (Injured), Chiwone (Injured), Gonzalez (Injured), Kalajdzic (Injured)

Questionable: Doyle (Injured)

Crystal Palace vs Wolves prediction

It will be an incredibly special and emotional evening at Selhurst Park as the FA Cup winners are paraded as heroes in Croydon in what is their final home game of the campaign. Crystal Palace take on a Wolves side that won’t be able to spoil the party but will be confident of finishing their own season with a flourish against a Palace side with little to play for in the Premier League so siding with Pereira’s men may well be a good value bet for this one at Selhurst Park this midweek.

Crystal Palace vs Wolves tip: Double chance – Wolves to win or draw
