THE TEAM NEWS

LANCASHIRE THUNDER

  • Lancashire Thunder picked up their first points of the season last time but they will have been frustrated not to have beaten the Southern Vipers after restricting them to 24/4 chasing their 132/7 but the Vipers tied their score and they shared the points.
  • Despite remaining winless, star batter Harmanpreet Kaur continued her good form as she topscored once again and only three other players have scored more than her 160 total runs in the tournament so far although Thunder desperately need some other players to support her better.
  • These two teams met just over a week ago at Taunton and the Storm chased down Thunder’s 141/6, so they will know they have to bowl better and improve with the bat if they are to compete here.

WESTERN STORM

  • Western Storm are looking invincible right now having won all five of their Super League matches so far this season and their last win against Yorkshire Diamonds was emphatic as they chased down their target of 152 with over five overs to spare and nine wickets remaining.
  • Four of the top seven highest scoring batters in the tournament this season play for the Storm – Knight (174), Mandhana (163), Priest (155) and Wilson (130) – and they continue to demonstrate how they have comfortably the best batting line-up in the tournament.
  • The previous meeting between these two teams this season saw Storm win by six wickets but with just three balls remaining though they will take heart from the fact that they appear to be improving each game so far.

THE PREDICTION

It is difficult to oppose Western Storm right now as they are flying in the Kia Super League having won all five matches so far and sitting top of the ladder. Lancashire Thunder on the other hand are yet to win any of their five games but did manage to tie last time out in a game they should have won. Ultimately, they lack the all-round quality to really challenge the Storm, and only complacency will threaten the Storm’s winning run here.
