LANCASHIRE THUNDER
- It is still no win in the 2019 Kia Super League for Lancashire Thunder as they come off another defeat against leaders Western Storm although they did take it to the penultimate ball of the innings for the Storm to sneak past their competitive total of 159/8.
- Star batter Harmanpreet Kaur topscored once again with her second half century of the tournament and her consistency remains outstanding and she finally found some solid support from McGrath who hit 44 as they made their highest total of the tournament so far which will give them some confidence.
- Kaur proved to be the most economical bowler of the pack also and that just goes to show her importance to this struggling team but more players need to step up here if the Thunder are going to manage that elusive first win.
LOUGHBOROUGH LIGHTNING
- Loughborough Lightning picked up their third win in their last four matches on Sunday as they beat Yorkshire Diamonds by six wickets and they had Mignon du Preez to thank once again after another impressive knock with the bat.
- The Lightning’s win on Sunday saw them leapfrog Surrey Stars into third place and they will be desperate to pick up another win here to maintain that spot and cement their knockout place.
- All three of their wins have coming chasing totals after restricting their opponents to modest totals, and that will be their aim here as they know that if they can contain Harmanpreet Kaur, then the Thunder have little other firepower in their batting ranks that is in any kind of form.
THE PREDICTION
Lancashire Thunder’s season continues to be a miserable one and their chances of a play-off place are receding by the game. They simply have to find a way to come up with a complete performance and they have yet to produce one good enough with bat and ball to grab a win yet. That does not bode well against this Loughborough outfit who have won their last two and some of their key players like Du Preez are finding form. While Thunder have shown they can compete even if they have been on the wrong side of some tight games, it is difficult to oppose Loughborough Lightning who are surging up the table.
