THE TEAM NEWS
OTAGO VOLTS
- Otago Volts continued their poor start to the competition as they failed to win for the fourth time in five outings as they were beaten by Canterbury last time out with their batting line-up once again failing to fire.
- Chasing 174 to win, the Volts could only manage to post 137/8 despite Hamish Rutherford’s 62 at the top of the order but his teammates let him down with none of them able to score more than 22 runs in support of the skipper.
WELLINGTON FIREBIRDS
- Wellington Firebirds’ losing run now stands at three after they were edged by Auckland in their most recent Super Smash contest and the pressure is on to get back to winning ways in this clash with fellow strugglers Otago Volts.
- The lack of quality in the Wellington batting line-up was highlighted in that defeat as Michael Bracewell was one of only two players to reach double figures but he will look to carry on where he left off after notching an unbeaten 58 in that game.
THE PREDICTION
Otago Volts and Wellington Firebirds have not made the best of starts
to the Super Smash and the pair occupy the bottom two spots on the
ladder ahead of this clash. Both are struggling with the bat but with
three successive losses and a lack of genuine quality in their line-up,
the Firebirds have it all to do here. There is little to split the two
teams here but the Volts look better-placed to get back to winning ways
and they can do enough to edge their opponents here.
