NEW ZEALAND
New Zealand couldn’t back up a fruitful performance in the first T20i, even though they were ultimately beaten. The second match on Friday saw them beaten far more convincingly, bowled out for just 102 chasing 175, thus losing by 72 runs. Only Glenn Phillips made a meaningful contribution with the bat in a contest which saw them second-best throughout.
AUSTRALIA
Unlike the Black Caps, Australia maintained their high standards across the second T20i and were rewarded with another victory. Although bowled out batting first, they reached 174 from 19.5 overs, opener Travis Head top-scoring with 45 from 22 balls. Their bowlers then proceeded to dominate, reducing New Zealand to 29/4 and eventually bowling them out for 102, with spinner Adam Zampa taking four wickets.
THE PREDICTION
Australia’s consistency deserves lauding and it’s a formidable T20i outfit that New Zealand have come up against across this series. The Black Caps haven’t been able to restrict Australia enough sufficiently with the bat and it’s hard to see that changing. All bases are covered from a bowling perspective and the tourists are expected to continue their domination across the third T20i.
