THE TEAM NEWS

NETHERLANDS

  • The big news regarding this Netherlands squad is the return of batter Tom Cooper after a long exile from the international scene and his experience will be vital in what will prove an intimidating challenge for the hosts.
  • Essex’s Shane Snater has been called up in-spite of county duty, however a number of other players such as Roelof van der Merwe, Colin Ackermann and Paul van Meekeren have not been released by their respective counties.
  • Netherlands could hand an international debut to the uncapped left-arm spin-bowler Tim Pringle, although it would be some gamble when factoring in the quality of opposition.

ENGLAND

  • Whilst a number of England’s multi-format players such as Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow will not feature in this series, the tourists have named a very strong squad full of white ball stars expected to play key roles for them ahead of the 2023 Cricket World Cup.
  • Jos Buttler returns to England duty following his incredible 2022 IPL campaign that saw him accrue the most runs across the tournament, whilst the likes of Moeen Ali, Liam Livingstone and Jason Roy will also feature.
  • A groin problem has been troubling captain Eoin Morgan this season, but he should be fit to play alongside all-rounder Sam Curran, who should make a welcome appearance on the international scene after building up his match time with Surrey following a back injury.

THE PREDICTION

To be perfectly honest, any result here other than a comprehensive England win would be considered a massive shock when taking into account the sheer quality and firepower the tourists boast within their batting line-up. The depth that England possess from a batting perspective is unbelievable and the VRA Ground will simply not be big enough to contain a number of these players should they get themselves in. Whilst Netherlands have every right to believe they can at least accrue a respectable total with the bat against a visiting bowling line-up missing the likes of Jofra Archer, Mark Wood and Chris Woakes. The bowling unit of the hosts just doesn’t look strong enough to restrict such a powerful top order from laying down the foundations for a comfortable England victory whether they are setting or chasing a target.
