• Melbourne Stars’ new-look side put up a great fight in their clash with Perth Scorchers but they could not build on a strong opening partnership between Joe Clarke and Thomas Rogers as they succumbed to a 50-run loss.
• That pair put on 78 in pursuit of 181 but were offered very little support and with a clutch of players still missing because of COVID-19 protocols, they have it all to do to improve on that effort for this all-Melbourne affair.

MELBOURNE RENEGADES

• Melbourne Renegades were denied the chance to end their losing streak as their game with Sydney Sixers was abandoned before any action could take place owing to inclement weather.
• It was perhaps a good thing for the Renegades were who expected to suffer a heavy loss in that game owing to the respective form of the two teams but the pressure is firmly on to get back to winning ways having failed to win since their opening game with Adelaide Strikers.

THE PREDICTION

This Melbourne derby has been somewhat overshadowed by the COVID-19 outbreak amount the Stars squad and they will once again field a very weakened team after going down to Perth Scorchers in their latest game. There is no pressure on them in this clash with some key men missing out and despite sitting at the foot of the ladder, the Renegades are expected to come out on top against their under-strength rivals. However, having played so poorly in the Big Bash League so far this year, the Renegades may not handle the scrutiny they will be under and the Stars can pull off a shock with Glenn Maxwell able to lead his side to an unlikely victory.
