Costa Rica must win here to stay alive at the World Cup, whilst Portugal most likely needs three points too when taking into account their poor goal difference.

Costa Rica vs Portugal prediction

Portugal as it stands would be one of two third-placed teams not to reach the knockout stage and a win is very much needed here. Costa Rica have lost both their two group stage fixtures and have given up seven goals over the course of those matches. If ever there was a game for Portugal to rally offensively, this is the one.

Expect more chances to be created than what we’ve been accustomed to seeing from Portugal. The fragility of Costa Rica’s backline cannot be underestimated and Portugal should be able to find success against them. Therefore, back the Europeans to edge this one but whether it’s enough for them to go through remains to be seen.

Costa Rica vs Portugal tip: Portugal to win
