Following promotion to the top-flight last season, Como have been entertaining to watch so far this season but they could do with some improved results as they now prepare to take on a lacklustre Monza by Lake Como this weekend.

Como Preview: Cesc’s Como

Last season, Como gained promotion to the top-flight of Italian football for the first time in over 60 years with Oisin Roberts officially in charge. Over the summer, Cesc Fabregas completed his coaching badges and officially took charge of the club with Roberts returning to being Head of Development.

After an ambitious and extremely busy summer transfer window, Como have put in some fun performances in the opening few months of the campaign with their opening 13 matches of the campaign consisting of 38 goals. They were most recently beaten 2-0 by title challenge Fiorentina at the weekend.

Monza Preview: Nesta’s Monza

Over the summer, Monza lost manager Raffaele Palladino to the aforementioned Fiorentina as an ambitious club as they tried to push for the top seven and the European spots. Palladino was replaced by former AC Milan defender Alessandro Nesta, most recently seen struggling at Reggiana in Serie B.

In their opening 13 matches of the campaign, they have scored just 11 goals with only Lecce scoring fewer than them so far this season. They begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting firmly in the bottom three and the relegation places after most recently sharing a 1-1 draw with out-of-form Torino in Piedmont.

Como Team News: Several absentees

A couple of those aforementioned ambitious signings from the summer are out injured for this weekend with the most notable absentees being Sergi Roberto and Maximo Perrone.

As well as those two, though, Como are without Alberto Dossena due to suspension as well as the likes of Luca Mazzitelli and Gabriel Strefezza.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Audero; Goldaniga, Feola, Barba, Sala; Engelhardt, Da Cunha; Fadera, Nico Paz, Alberto Moreno; Cutrone

Unavailable: Jasim (Injured), Dossena (Suspended), Sergi Roberto (Injured), Mazzitelli (Injured), Gabrielloni (Injured), Maximo Perrone (Injured), Strefezza (Injured)

Questionable:

Monza Team News: Experienced absentees

Experienced Italy internationals Danilo D’Ambrosio and Roberto Gagliardini have been absent for Monza for a while and they remain doubtful for this weekend.

As well as those two players potentially being unavailable for the visitors, Alessio Cragno is sidelined with a shoulder injury, whilst Matteo Pessina has a hamstring injury.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Turati; Izzo, Pablo Mari, Carboni; Pedro Pereira, Bondo, Bianco, Kyriakopoulos; Dany Mota, Maldini; Djuric

Unavailable: Cragno (Injured), Pessina (Injured)

Questionable: D’Ambrosio (Injured), Gagliardini (Injured)

Como vs Monza Prediction

As mentioned, Como have been entertaining to watch but could perhaps do with getting more results on the board to ease the pressure on Cesc Fabregas. Last week’s loss to former Monza boss Palladino and his impressive Fiorentina side is no shame at all, though. Monza have been solid but lacked something at the top end of the pitch to threaten pretty much anyone so backing Como, especially with their home advantage, would appear the sensible way to go for this one.

Como vs Monza Tip: Como to win
