Tottenham preview: Struggling Spurs again
On the final day of last season, Tottenham defeated Everton to ensure their survival in the Premier League. A big spending summer and a full pre-season under Roberto De Zerbi was supposed to bring about a much-improved season.
However, they have started slowly once again. After defeats to Brentford and then Newcastle United, Spurs were then fortunate to share a goalless draw with Nottingham Forest last week with a Neco Williams goal controversially disallowed for handball.
Everton preview: Fighting Toffees
David Moyes is rightly irritated by the state of his squad and the mess that Everton made to the end of their summer transfer window but The Toffees have remained strong, unbeaten in four matches across all competitions so far this season.
They kept their unbeaten start intact in dramatic fashion at the Hill Dickinson Stadium last week with Ainsley Maitland-Niles scoring a stunner deep into second half stoppage-time to share a 2-2 draw with Manchester United.
Tottenham team news: Maddison pushing to return
James Maddison is pushing to return to action for Spurs, having returned to training just before the trip to Nottingham and attempting to regain his full match fitness.
There is a chance that Mykhaylo Mudryk comes in for the underperforming Mathys Tel but it would still be a surprise of the Ukrainian is now fit enough to start after De Zerbi confirmed that was not the case against Forest.

Everton team news: Grealish and Maitland-Niles may start
Jack Grealish and in particular Ainsley Maitland-Niles made an impact on their second and first debuts for the club last week off the bench and both may well now come into the eleven for this one.
Hayden Hackney is another summer signing who performed well off the bench but a start seems further away for him given the form of James Garner and Harrison Armstrong.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Pickford; Maitland-Niles, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Garner, Armstrong; George, Dewsbury-Hall, Grealish; Barry

Tottenham vs Everton prediction
Tottenham put in a slightly improved performance against Forest last week but their manager has already criticised the mentality of his squad and, by extension, his new signings. Everton may lack quality in certain areas and depth in pretty much all areas but mentality is one thing that they have shown with two late equalisers in their last two games. Everton will be tougher to beat than they were on the final day in May and they will be confident of frustrating a Spurs side that, as Oliver Glasner explained, may well have already been worked out in terms of their patterns of play – ensuring that they remain as toothless as they have been thus far.
Tottenham vs Everton tip: Under 2.5 goals
