Sevilla preview: Up and down
Luis Garcia Plaza led Sevilla to survival last season and has stayed put in Seville despite the Andalusians again dealing with financial constraints over the summer, leaving them in a position where major improvement feels unlikely.
The Sevillanos began with fairly fortunate victories against Rayo Vallecano and then Athletic Club before a 3-1 defeat at home to Atletico Madrid before a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Espanyol in which they conceded a 98th minute equaliser in Barcelona.
Valencia preview: Circling the drain
Valencia have been circling the drain towards relegation for a while with supporter unrest against owner Peter Lim – and things appear even worse this time around in what is their final season at Mestalla before moving into Nou Mestalla next season.
At the time of writing, Carlos Corberan remains in charge of Valencia but they have started their season in form that would suggest he may soon depart – that continued with a 5-0 annihilation at the hands of defending champions Barcelona last weekend.
Sevilla team news: Sangante suspended
Sevilla defender Arouna Sangante is missing through suspension this weekend after a red card last week, while Switzerland international winger Ruben Vargas remains sidelined due to a knee injury.

Sevilla vs Valencia prediction
Former West Bromwich Albion boss Carlos Corberan has been the subject of pleas to resign from both supporters and the local press. The Valencians’ 5-0 defeat to Barca came on the back of defeats to Real Betis and newly-promoted Deportivo La Coruna after a goalless draw with Celta Vigo in their opener. Sevilla have at least been punchier this time around and, with home advantage, will certainly fancy themselves to at least avoid defeats against the sorry Los Che.
