Rennes preview: Impressive Rennes
In the second half of last season, Stade Rennais were extremely impressive but narrowly missed out on European qualification following the appointment of former Lens boss Franck Haise.
They have started this season well by going 2-0 up against Paris Saint-Germain before sharing a 2-2 draw with the defending champions ahead of victories against newly-promoted Le Mans and then away from home against Angers last week.
Marseille preview: Frustrated Marseille
Over the summer, Olympique de Marseille embarked upon another new era with the appointment of former Lille boss Bruno Genesio – and he began well with an impressive 4-0 demolition of Strasbourg at Stade Velodrome in their opener.
However, l’OM have since succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at Stade Louis II against Monaco before they were then beaten 3-2 by Paris FC at the Velodrome last week with Lassine Sinayoko scoring a hat-trick for the Parisians with an 86th minute winner from the penalty spot.
Rennes team news: Ait Boudlal
Centre-back Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal, who stayed at the club amid reported interest from Fulham, suffered an injury last weekend and so is a doubt for the visit of Marseille.

Marseille’s performances haven’t necessarily reflected their results that have given them two defeats in their opening three matches. Rennes have been shakier at the back than they would have liked, too, which will give the visitors further confidence ahead of this one on Friday and both teams scoring would therefore appear a decent bet – albeit home advantage may well give Rennes the edge for this one, too.
