Como preview: Cesc's Como

Having gained promotion to the top-flight in the 2023/24 season, Como steered themselves to a top-half finish last season with an excellent second-half to the campaign, and a lot of excitement about the coaching ability of the aforementioned Cesc Fabregas, who has been backed with around £100 million spent on his squad over the summer transfer window.

Como started their campaign where they left off from last season, playing brilliantly and defeating Lazio by two goals to nil on the opening day, with Nico Paz the star man. They did then get pegged back a week later, suffering a 1-0 loss to an indifferent Bologna side at the Renato Dall'Ara. They were perhaps still the better side in that game, though.

Genoa preview: Vieira's Genoa

Mid-way through the first-half of last season, Genoa took the surprising decision to sack manager Alberto Gilardino and replace him with another former Arsenal captain in Patrick Vieira. Known for wanting to play front foot football, Vieira battened down the hatches and steered Genoa to a mid-table finish playing quite a defensive style of football.

777 Partners are now gone and there is optimism at Genoa, but it has been an underwhelming start to the season. They were held to a goalless draw at home by a poor Lecce side before then being edged out by a goal to nil at home by a fairly average and difficult to watch Juventus team before the September international break.

Como team news: A few injuries

Como have a few injuries to deal with for this one as Ignace Van der Brempt remains sidelined alongside fellow defender Alberto Dossena and former Real Betis attacker Assane Diao.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Butez; Sergi Roberto, Jacobo, Kempf, Alex Valle; Maximo Perrone, Da Cunha; Vojvoda, Nico Paz, Jesus Rodriguez; Douvikas

Unavailable: Van der Brempt (Injured), Dossena (Injured), Diao (Injured)

Questionable:

Genoa team news: Nothing new

As they make the trip to face Como, there are no fresh injury concerns or suspension issues for Genoa, and so they will be able to name an unchanged eleven for this one.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Leali; Norton-Cuffy, Ostigard, Johan Vasquez, Caricol; Masini, Frendrup; Ellertsson, Carboni, Stanciu; Colombo

Unavailable:

Questionable: Otoa (Injured)

Como vs Genoa prediction

The two sides have the similarity of former Arsenal teammates in their respective dugouts, but that's about where it ends. Como appear to be a side striving for European football this season, with Genoa again treading water and perhaps even going backwards this season. With home advantage, Como will fancy themselves to get back on the winning track at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia this weekend.

Como vs Genoa tip: Como to win
