That was her first match since also having to retire against Katie Boulter in Miami six weeks earlier. She received a bye as the fourth seed and now faces Jaqueline Cristian. The Romanian got her campaign up and running with a dominant win over McCartney Kessler in the first-round. Cristian created 12 break point opportunities in total as she won 6-1 6-1 after an hour and 17 minutes.
The head-to-head is 3-3 between the pair. Tauson’s movement could be compromised if her shoulder injury persists, while Cristian is coming off a fine performance in round one. The latter is a safer bet to win.
