Cerro Porteno most recently edged past Trinidense by a goal to nil at General Pablo Rojas the other day in the Paraguayan Primera Division Apertura thanks to a 13th minute winning strike from early substitute Cecilio Dominguez. They have now managed back-to-back victories after a three-match winless run of form across all competitions.
They now face a Sporting Cristal side that may well be viewed as one of the weakest sides in the group stages of the 2025 CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores. The Peruvians were most recently beaten by a goal to nil domestically by Alianza Atletico and they have now managed just two wins in eight games across all competitions.
With their home advantage, Cerro Porteno will be expected to get a second win on the board in this competition against a team as relatively weak as Sporting Cristal this midweek.
